Mastering the art of storytelling to drive change.
In A Work in Process, Carolyn Golden tells the story of how her love for art and desire for personal growth took her on an emotional adventure across the continent of Europe and then back to the U.S. It is a great guide for artists as well as a story about how one person changed her life by facing up to some of her biggest fears.
A national award-winning artist, Carolyn Golden began her professional career creating ceramics in the early 1960s. As her family grew, so did her passion for creating in different milieus. Painting on silk fabrics became her specialty.
In 1986, Carolyn went to live and work in France, Italy and Spain — hoping that the changes would affect her artwork. On her own and having little foreign language skills, she was curious to find out how she would survive? Or thrive? Would she become a different person in some ways — and how would that show up in her new artwork?
Throughout her travels, Carolyn became infatuated with the doors she passed by each day. Upon returning to the U.S. in 1995, she was inspired to create “Doors of the World.” For this collection, she won the “Texas National” art competition at Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches.
Carolyn has been represented in galleries throughout the U.S., Spain and Amsterdam. She has received numerous awards for her work in competitions all over the country, and been featured in just as many publications:
Today’s Chicago Woman, “100 Women Making a Difference” 1996
The Chicago Tribune, “Don’t Knock It, “ Doors of the World” 1999
Jewish News of Greater Phoenix, “Carolyn Golden Opens Doors to Many Cultures” 1997
Frau Und Gesellschaft, 1998
Scottsdale Life, “Artist Opens a Door” 1997
Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art Studio Tours, 2002.
Arizona Republic, “Close Brush With Art”
From 2000-2002, Carolyn taught the art of making doors to schoolchildren in Phoenix and Tempe, Arizona.
“All history leads to the present; that’s what I went to learn. I could only take it to the future, that’s what I did with my work. It’s what was, what is and what I hope for; the coming together of cultures, some connection between people in this universe.”
Carolyn Golden earned a BFA of Fine Arts at the university of Miami in Coral Gables in 1962. After 60 years of learning, working and creating, she is the author of the new memoir: A Work In Process.
